Wake up to the familiar alarm
of consternation and dread
Separation anxiety bears down on me
the second I get out of bed
Because the thought of being trapped in this routine gives me the fear
Well that could be the understatement of the year
Ambition putting the guilt trip on me and trying to follow me out the front door
Can’t keep my work life balance from tipping over and spilling out across the floor
And I’d be the first to admit that I’ve made some mistakes
But there’s only so much more that I can take
5:30pm and nothing to show
except for a bad back and eye strain
And lately I’m becoming a little concerned
by how little I use my brain
I need some time, a holiday or even just a break
Because there’s only so much more that I can take
If I’m off today don’t look for me
I’ll be gone, already miles away
